The swirly, striped lighthouse is the Cape Hatteras Light. Located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Cape Hatteras Light is a very visually distinctive structure. The striped lighthouse is the second oldest still operating lighthouse in the United States.
The lighthouse was built in 870 and has operated ever since, with the exception of during the civil war (when Confederate troops dismantled the lens) and 1999 (when the structure was moved due to eroding coastline).
