Scarlet Macaws in Costa Rica

Once facing extinction, scarlet macaws have been brought back from the brink in Costa Rica by a combination of breeding programs and tough anti-poaching laws.

Here, we see two of these finely-clothed birds sharing an affectionate moment together on a branch. There’s never been a better time to see wildlife up close in the lowlands of Costa Rica.
