Rock-hopping bear cubs avoid getting wet

Rockhopper— Hopping from rock to rock, twin six month old grizzly bear cubs try to avoid the frigid water of the Chilkoot river in Haines, Alaska. These bear cubs haven’t built up the body fat and fur to withstand the cold temperatures of Alaskan waters for long.

During the Alaskan summer, the sun rarely sets. These long days cause huge volumes of snowmelt from Alaska’s towering mountain peaks, which makes the rivers and lakes in the region very cold.
