A plate-billed mountain toucan in Ecuador. It’s named for the yellow-orange “plate” on its bill, which is black to dark-red otherwise.
Plate-billed mountain toucans are loud enough to hear almost a mile away. Males and females have distinct calls, adding lots of noise to the symphony of the cloud forest.
