This humongous grizzly bear would sit on the rocks and wait for the salmon to come up stream. He would then leap into the cold Alaskan river, and grab the fish. His very efficient fishing technique ensured that he would gain the weight needed to make it through the winter. More energetic bears that jump and splash and chase fish around the river use up more energy, and thus need to catch more fish.
This bear has likely refined his fishing strategy over many summers. This energy-efficient hunting has no doubt contributed to building this grizzly bear’s enormous frame.
