A mama grizzly protects her three babies. These bear triplets are spring cubs— less than six months old. The mother gave birth during her winter hibernation, something many human mothers of triplets must be envious of!
This large female brown bear is guarding her three cubs from the photographer. Notice how the sow positions herself between her cubs and the photographer, who all four bears have clearly noticed. This protective behavior is pure animal instinct.
The cub in the foreground has a collar of white fur. This is an adolescent trait which baby bears usually grow out of rather quickly.
