This gigantic grizzly bear proudly carries its huge salmon catch out of the McNeil river in Alaska. This bear was the largest specimen present on this stretch of the river during the salmon run.
The salmon run is an event which draws hundreds of Alaskan grizzly bears and brown bears to concentrated stretches of stream in order to feed on the huge quantities of salmon which are swimming upstream to lay their eggs.
When grizzly bears congregate for the salmon run, the biggest bears command the best fishing spots. Bears are usually solitary creatures, but will tolerate others during the salmon run because food is so abundant. Nonetheless, the biggest bears still command respect from their smaller brothers.
