A mother grizzly bear and her cub stop for a drink at Lake Clark National Park in Southwest Alaska. Continuously inhabited since early prehistoric times, the Lake Clark region nevertheless remains sparsely populated by humans.
Female brown bears den while pregnant and give birth during this winter rest, usually to a pair of cubs. Brown bear cubs nurse on their mother’s milk until spring and stay with her for about two and a half years.
