While exploring the South Klondike Highway, we explored the beautiful Emerald Lake just to the south of Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada and north of Skagway, Alaska. The brilliant green of the water is a result of calcium carbonate leaching from the limestone gravels of the valley. This shallow lake was formed like most lakes in the north by glacial retreat.
