On the Cook Inlet coast of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, the salmon run provides an energy rich diet for the Alaskan brown bear. A large male may weigh over 1, 000 pounds when they begin hibernation. Between June to October, the salmon can be an abundant source of food, depending upon the lake or river.
